Palladium cup

Palladium cup

Made in 2009 to take the first hallmark for Palladium.

Palladium is a soft silver-white metal that resembles platinum. The metal has the uncommon ability to absorb up to 900 times its own volume of hydrogen at room temperature. We were keen to discover the working properties of this metal and hand raised a sheet of palladium into this cup.

Noble metals all have peculiar characteristics, gold is soft and very strong, silver is highly reflective and is one of the best conductors of heat. While working the palladium cup marks made on the surface with an indelible marker pen, to aid the hammering process, disappeared mysteriously in front of our eyes, while its ability to accept a gilded interior resulted in the most beautiful colour.
